Newsletter No 6 – Renewable Energy in Transport – 6th Workshop in Berlin
Transportation continues to be highly dependent on fossil fuels, which, due to the shrinking availability of resources, will someday be too costly and unreliable. At the same time, transportation is responsible for a significant share of the total C02 emissions in Europe. Thus, in addition to reducing energy use in transport, a shift towards renewable energy sources is regarded as an important requirement for a sustainable transport system in the future.
The integration of renewable energy sources in the transport sector in metropolitan regions in Europe was the topic of the sixth workshop of the project Catch-MR, which took place in Berlin from 14 to 16 March 2012.
The workshop addressed three aspects of the topic:
- renewable energy in motorized individualized transport
- renewable energy in public transport
- regional production of renewable energy.
